"Flowers... are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty out values all the utilities of the world." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Flowers are such delightful creations. Be it a lone blossom or a whole garden, the beauty and the bliss they give us is immeasurable. Roses, lilies, marigolds, carnations, etc., there are innumerable types from the well-bred to the wild ones. The tiger lily is one of the endangered species.
Facts
It is a large orange blossom. There are dark spots on its petals and it has a strong and sweet fragrance. This flower was first described in the writings of a famous Swedish botanist, Carl Von Linne. Around 1804, William Kerr introduced Britain to this blossom. There are two sub types: one is the Oriental type, and the other is the wild species. The oriental one has to be planted by the bulb. These can be later dug up and divided. The wild species grows with the help of tuberous roots.
The primary requirement for growing this blossom is damp soil. The Columbia lily needs well-drained soil coupled with organic fertilizer or mulch. This flower can grow from 4 to 6 inches long to a width of 3 inches. The leaves of this plant are narrow and are a couple of inches wide. They give a bright and jazzy look to your garden or yard. It can be called a perennial flower or herb, and it is edible. The bulbs are dug up and boiled or steamed in the USA and some Oriental countries.
Arrangements
Tiger lilies are excellent in wedding bouquets and as a part of the whole wedding flower arrangement. What makes it a great option for weddings is its striking color and features. Centerpieces made with these blossoms look fabulous. You can have a whole bunch of just one type or combine different types of lilies. Daffodils, tulips, chrysanthemums, or white, salmon, or yellow-colored roses make for amazing arrangements when teamed up with these lilies.
