Window Treatment Ideas for Patio Doors

The number and types of window treatments for a patio door that you can use to give it a welcoming appearance are unlimited. Here are some of the most common ones, that are undoubtedly the best!
The best part about having a patio is beyond any doubt, the generous amount of sunlight that the area gets bathed in. Some home owners prefer keeping their patios accessorized with minimal objects, while some like to have a full-fledged seating area. Whatever the style, there's one common factor in almost any patio owner's mind.
In winter, the sun is more than welcome, but then come the summers, when the sun's glare gets a little too much for their liking. So they need to resort to some conventional window treatments for the door. Some of these have been mentioned here. We're sure you'll find what you're looking for.

Blinds must have been the first thought that came to your mind when you thought about giving your patio door a different appearance, while keeping the home safe from the super hot rays of the sun.
This just proves the popularity and huge success of using blinds as a window treatment for your patio door. Vertical blinds, with panels above and below them are the perfect way to go. You can go for some really fascinating color combinations to adorn your patio door window.
Try out colors that will dilute the effect of the sun's light, but fill the room with a dull glow that enhances its color scheme. You can also have blinds that have some beautiful designs on them, which get displayed when the blinds are drawn.

The next favorite when it comes to treating the door to a patio are curtains and drapes.
The best part about patio door curtains is that they have a regal appearance and do great justice to any kind of frame. While choosing curtains for your patio door window, you need to keep some things in mind. First of all, determine the reason you're getting the drapes. If it's simply to decorate the frame, then you can go for a light fabric.
But if you want the room to be protected from the heat of the sun, then you're better off getting drapes in a heavy fabric. The color is another factor that you must take into consideration. The colors of the drapes should not only flatter the decor of the room, but they must also be able to absorb the sun's rays.
Dark colors on the outside with a light inner lining are the best choice. You can also have plain, thick drapes, complemented by beaded or mirrored curtains on the side that faces the inside of the home. For curtains, get rods on both sides (above and below), so that they do not come in the way, when you open and close the door repeatedly.

Solar Mesh Panels

Another very practical option that many home owners are going for are solar mesh panels. These panels are most probably available at your local hardware or furnishing store. If not, you can browse online and find sites that deliver and install them for you.
These panels are made most commonly of PVC. They are installed using a headrail, which is made of aluminum. This headrail allows you to open and close the panel very easily, just like your sliding patio door, if you have one.
These solar panels have two benefits. They, first of all, reduce the amount of sunlight that enters the home plus, they also provide insulation, which helps to cool down the atmosphere within the home. You can use thin curtains along with these panels to further enhance its appearance.

Stained Glass

If you want to do something out-of-the-box and unconventional, then this idea is perfect for you. Instead of getting something added to your patio door window, you can simply get stained glass windows. There are sure to be a lot of glass outlets where you can get beautiful stained glass, preferably in dark colors, to keep the sun's blazing light at bay.
It will give your home a traditional look and feel. If you can't find stained glass, and if you're adept at glass painting, take it up as a project and paint some fantastic designs on the glass yourself. If not even that, you can surely find an artist, a family member or a friend to do the painting.
As you can see, the ideas that you can use for patio door window treatments are all very practical and hence, have garnered immense popularity. If you have some more innovative and creative ideas, do let us know.
