Growing lavender plants can be an easy and enjoyable hobby. Here are some tips to grow these plants in the proper manner.
Lavender plants are among the most fragrant plants one can have in the garden. It is a woody plant and its fragrance has a magical effect. Lavender is also considered an aphrodisiac.
There are around 40 species of lavender plants, and growing them is not a difficult task. They are very popular for the sheer beauty and fragrance of their flowers.

Tips and Tricks to Grow Lavender Plants

Plants grown in lean soil have a higher concentration of oils. The pH of the soil must be between 6.5 to 7.5. You can use sand or pea gravel to make a good mulch. Sand helps to maintain the temperature of the soil.
Lavender plants can be grown in containers or pots, if you do not have space for indoor garden. If you plan to grow this plant in pots, remember to keep it in the sun.
The pot should be big enough to accommodate the main root; although this plant has an enormous root system. This is because, the lavender plant should be grown in tight containers to avoid excess dampness in the soil, which is not beneficial for the roots. In other words, too much soil and less roots may lead to excessive dampness that can cause root rot.
Lavender plants need to be pruned regularly to keep them in shape. The pruning depends on the plant variety. For tall plants, you have to cut one-third of their height; whereas for the small varieties, you need to cut only a few inches.
The right proportion of sunlight and water are very important for lavender plants. When it comes to growing lavender, full sunlight is necessary for their proper growth. Therefore, the location of the plant is very important. They need at least 8 hours of proper sunlight.
During the first year of their growth, you have to water the plants on a regular basis. Once they mature, these plants do not need frequent watering.
If you are planning to grow plenty of lavender plants, then make sure they are evenly spaced out. These plants should have enough air circulation, so that they can grow properly and flower well.
When the lavender plant blossoms, it would be the most rewarding part of your efforts. The flowers are used for a variety of reasons.
